about

I wrote this song on a train heading up from San Jose to Oroville. I had a pretty heinous week leading up to that trip full of binge drinking among other things. I just felt like I was falling off the face of the Earth, or going crazy.

lyrics

I'm headed out on them rails tonight and I'm on my way back home
I've been doing this for my whole life 'cuz baby it's all that I know
This time I know where I headed
but you don't know where I've been
I've done it once, I've done it twice, and I'll do it again and again

All my life I've been living so lonesome and free
it's caused so much heartache and god-damn misery
Now I sit here and fade away as I think about my past
and I take a shot, yeah one last drink as I feel the hellfire's grasp

and I'm headed out on them rails tonight and I'm on my way back home
I've been doing this for my whole life 'cuz baby it's all that I know
This time I know where I headed
and I sure as hell know where I've been
I'm going down in that long black train to finally pay for my sins
